We are looking for a Leisure and Community Development Officer to join the Leisure and Community Development Team at Spelthorne Borough Council.
This important role provides essential support to the coordination of leisure, arts, and community development activities for all ages throughout the borough. This broad and varied position sits within a passionate team that puts the community at the heart of everything we do.
As the Leisure and Community Development Officer you will work in partnership with voluntary organisations and key stakeholders to implement and monitor Leisure and Community Development initiatives. You will support the Community Development Manager and Arts and Cultural Development Manager to deliver existing initiatives and new opportunities, consulting with partners and community groups and providing telephone and office support to the team.
Whilst Local Government structures in Surrey are currently being reviewed, its still business as usual. There's lots going on within Leisure and Community Development across Spelthorne with opportunities to get involved in a range of projects with which to challenge yourself and gain experience. We have recently opened a new award-winning leisure centre, Eclipse, in Staines-Upon-Thames, built to ultra-low energy Passivhaus standards, and managed by Places Leisure, and we have secured partnership funding from both Arts Council England and Sport England to increase cultural engagement and activity levels in key areas within the borough.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual with experience of either arts, heritage, health, or community development. Someone with a can-do attitude, willingness to work independently and as part of a team, with a passion for leisure and or the voluntary sector.
You will be comfortable working with numbers and data in spreadsheets and databases and be able to interpret and convey complex information in plain English for a variety of audiences.
This post is identified as a hybrid post supporting both office and home working in line with Spelthorne Borough Council's policy. The post holder will be required to attend the office in line with a rota and any service requirements.
Please note as part of the employment checks this post will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.
In return, we can offer excellent conditions of service with a benefits' package that includes flexible working hours, pension scheme and at least 23 days' paid leave per year (pro rata for part time).
