Spelthorne Borough Council has approved a new Housing, Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy for 2025-2030

The new strategy outlines how the Council proposes to address housing need and prevent and tackle homelessness in Spelthorne using three key strategic priorities:

  • Partnership working: A multi-agency approach to tackling homelessness
  • Identifying opportunities to address housing need
  • Proactive homelessness prevention and an effective service response

It also contains a detailed action plan which outlines the specific actions for each priority area.

A public consultation was held between 9 December 2024 and 19 January 2025 to give residents and other interested parties an opportunity to comment on the first draft of the strategy. A total of 162 response were received.

The Council will monitor its service delivery through the Strategic Housing Group, made up of officers and councillors, and continue to host the multi-agency Homelessness Prevention Forum which includes representatives from statutory agencies and community partners.

Chair of Spelthorne's Community Wellbeing and Housing Committee, Cllr Susan Doran, said: "This strategy clearly sets out the principles which will underpin our work and the detailed actions we plan to take over the next five years. We are committed to ensuring that Spelthorne residents have somewhere to call home that is suitable and affordable, and anyone at risk of becoming homeless has access to effective, specialist support at the earliest opportunity."
