Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Waste Operations Manager to join the team.

This is an office based position.

(There is a possibility that this could be a job share 2 x 20hr week)

Salary

£33,000 to £40,000

General responsibilities

  • Running the day to day tasks of a commercial waste company.
  • Interaction with Customers, Suppliers, Council departments and staff.

General duties:

Responsible for maintaining relationships with businesses and external contractors to ensure that commercial collection of services is provided in accordance with agreements and that appropriate monitoring of the operational commercial waste activities are undertaken to ensure that services are delivered in accordance with schedules and to specification.

To develop the business and to liaise with businesses and instigate changes to service contracts as required to meet changing customer needs or to set up new arrangements.

Specific duties and responsibilities

  • To maintain relationships with customers, businesses, and external Contractors and ensure that commercial services are provided in accordance with their agreements.
  • To be responsible for monitoring the operation in commercial waste and recycling ensuring that services are delivered in accordance with the schedules and to specification.
  • To liaise with businesses and instigate changes to service contracts as required to meet changing customer needs or to set up new agreements.
  • Work with service providers to ensure services are delivered as required.
  • Ensuring adherence to all relevant environmental regulations, health and safety standards, and other legal requirements, including those related to driver hours and waste management practices.
  • Managing waste collection staff, including drivers, ensuring they are adequately trained and equipped to perform their duties.
  • Attending and chairing monthly Board Meetings
  • Email management
  • Handling HR documents - Contracts, holidays and absence
  • Answering calls from businesses in relation to the provision of commercial waste services.
  • Round sequencing within the in house transport system
  • Duties, which include processing of any personal data, must be undertaken within the corporate data protection guidelines (Data Protection Act 1998).  To ensure that all work undertaken complies with the relevant Procedure Manual and is in accordance with Council and Statutory requirement
  • Carry out such other duties as may be required, appropriate to your skills and to a level of responsibility not exceeding the grade on which you are appointed. Essential requirements:

  • Good knowledge of operational processes and procedures with an ability to adapt to changing business environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook). Great people skills. Valid UK driving licence.

Experience/qualifications

  • Knowledge of the Borough (preferred but not essential)
  • Proven experience of operational procedures
  • Proven experience of providing excellent customer service
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and experienced in providing support to others
  • Full UK driving licence
